MASTERING THE ART OF SHOPPING ON THE REALREAL: ESSENTIAL TIPS AND TRICKS
The RealReal has become a go-to destination for fashion enthusiasts looking for luxury items at discounted prices. I have been a TRR enthusiast for 10 years and counting (I personally consign and buy)! With its extensive selection of pre-owned designer pieces, it's no wonder TRR has become one of the largest hotspots for luxury goods. We know it can be tricky to navigate online consignment shopping, so to ensure a successful shopping experience on The RealReal, we've compiled a list of essential tips and tricks to help direct you and make the most of your purchase(s). Obsessions and Save Favorites (My TRR):
The RealReal's inventory is constantly changing, with new arrivals and sought-after pieces being added daily (10AM & 7PM EST). To stay ahead of the curve, you’ll want to start using the Obsessions feature (heart items that you love) and create a gallery of your favorite items. You will then be notified when one of your “obsessions” goes on sale or is available again, if it was sold. Your “obsessions” page is also great for big sales, as you can just scroll your obsessions to see what is on sale!
You will also want to set up My TRR (Save Searches), which you can start saving your favorite categories, designers, specific item types, or sizes/colors and even editors picks. Example. You want a Chanel slingback flat in size 41, and colors neutral and black. You select all of these in the search bar, and then you have the option to save this curated search, which saves under “My TRR”. Check this list, and it will populate all the new listings for you daily without having to do all the hard work, and you can snag things before anyone else!
I use “My TRR” a lot, especially if I am looking for something specific or just want to know what comes in for my favorite designers and in my size/color so I don’t have to search every time.
Read Descriptions/Condition Reports and Return Policy:
Because The RealReal specializes in pre-owned luxury items, it's crucial to carefully read item descriptions and condition reports, as well as look at all the pictures provided (they photograph every single item that comes through the pipeline)! These will show/tell you detailed information about the condition, any signs of wear, and authenticity verification.
The RealReal employs a team of experts who thoroughly inspect each item, ensuring their authenticity. By paying close attention to these reports, you can make informed decisions and understand what to expect from your purchase. You can also add to your search “items with tags” if you only want to search for new items (see below for more on that). I have never returned something from TRR because of condition, but I do my homework before buying the item.
Make sure you always check the return policy on EACH item, as it changes from category to category. For instance, handbags are no longer returnable, but you can consign them!
Utilize Detailed Filters and Search Options:
The RealReal offers an extensive range of filters and search options to help you find exactly what you're looking for. Narrow down your search by brand, size, color, style, or even specific criteria like "New with Tags" or "Limited Edition" or “Editors Pick.” These features enable you to save time and discover the items that align with your preferences. Remember to experiment with different combinations and explore the "Similar Styles" suggestions for more options.
